Other Terms: Ala minor (os sphenoidale), Lesser wing of sphenoidal bone, Ingrassia's process, Ala minor ossis sphenoidalis
Description
This is the smaller of two wing-like projections from the body of the sphenoid bone. These are flat, triangular projections of bone. They project anterior and lateral from the dorsum sellae. The optic foramen or canal perforates through their wide base. They form the roof of the superior orbital fissure. The wings articulate with the frontal, ethmoidal, and palatine bones.
