Cephalic vein
Other Terms: Cephalic vein of forearm, Vena cephalica, Vena cephalica antebrachii, Veine céphalique, Veine céphalique de l'avant-bras
Description
The cephalic vein is seen on the lateral side of the arm. It is formed by the junction of the radial and the median cephalic veins in the groove between the brachioradialis and the lower, tapering end of the biceps brachii muscle. It passes upward over the lateral edge of the biceps. After piercing the deep fascia, it dips into the deltopectoral triangle, where it is accompanied by the descending branch of the thoracoacromial artery. Just below the middle of the clavicle, it pierces the costocoracoid membrane and empties into the third portion of the axillary vein.
