Subscapular vein
Other Terms: Vena subscapularis, Veine subscapulaire
Description
The subscapular vein lies in front of the subscapular artery at its origin. It runs along a corresponding path with that artery. The subscapular artery is to the medial side of the anterior border of the latissimus dorsi, lying in the areolar tissue in front of the subscapularis muscle. The thoracodorsal nerve lies to the medial side of the upper third of the artery and in intimate relation with the middle third. The subscapular vein lies in front of the artery at its origin, and holds a varying relation to the remainder of the artery. The circumflex scapular artery arises from the subscapular artery about two and a half centimeters (one inch) from the origin of the latter. The thoracodorsal nerve passes toward the teres major muscle just above or below the position of the circumflex scapular artery.
