Description
This is a ridge of bone on the medial surface of the perpendicular plate of the palatine. The term concha derives from the Greek konche meaning shell. It applies to any shell shaped structure. Eighteenth Century anatomists applied concha to the swirling, shell-like bone of the nasal region. Crest is a term applied to a ridge of bone. The Latin term used for this is crista.
