Superficial peroneal (fibular) nerve
Other Terms: Superficial peroneal nerve, Nervus fibularis superficialis, Nervus peroneus superficialis, Nerf fibulaire superficiel
Description
The superficial fibular nerve originates from the common fibular nerve. It supplies the muscles of the lateral compartment of the leg. It passes between the fibularis longus and brevis muscles and the extensor digitorum longus. It then pierces the fascia at the distal third anterior portion of the leg. It divides into medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerves. It is the motor supply to the fibularis longus and brevis. It also supplies the skin over most of the dorsum of the foot excluding the web between the first toe and second toe and the distal interphalangeal segments of all toes.
