Musculocutaneous nerve
Other Terms: Casserio's nerve, Nervus musculocutaneus, Nerf musculo-cutané
Description
The muscuIocutaneous nerve arises from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus, opposite the lower border of the pectoralis minor. At its origin it lies close to the lateral side of the axillary artery. It then passes laterally and downward to the coracobrachialis muscle, which it pierces and supplies, undergoing subdivision in its substance. It supplies the coracobrachialis, the coracoid head of the biceps brachii and the brachialis muscles. Division of the nerve at its origin results in paralysis of the flexor muscles of the elbow. Its terminal branches supply sensation along the lateral side of the forearm.
