Interpeduncular fossa
Other Terms: Fossa interpeduncularis, Recessus prepontinus fossae intercruralis, Recessus posterior prepontinus trigoni interpeduncularis, Fossa intercruralis
Description
The interpeduncular fossa is a lozenge-shaped area. It is bound by the optic chiasm in front, the pons behind, the optic tracts of the crura cerebri on the anterolateral side, and the cerebral peduncle posterolaterally. It contains the tuber cinercum, corpus albicans, the intradural portion of the infundibulum, the posterior perforated space, and the occulomoter nerves. All of these structures except for the occulomoter nerves form the floor of the third ventricle except for its anterior portion.
