fibrous capsule
Description
The fibrous capsule of a synovial joint is the outer collagenous envelope of the joint capsule. It is superficial to the inner synovial membrane and is often referred to as the capsular ligament. It is literally a thickened continuation of the periosteum across the joint between articulating bones.
