Labium minus
Other Terms: Labium minorum, Labium minus pudendi, Petite lèvre de la vulve
Description
The labium minus are two small cutaneous folds positioned medial to the labium majus. They form the prepuce and the frenulum of the clitoris, and extend downward and lateralward from the sides and dorsum of this organ for about four centimeters (one and a half inches), to become continuous with the skin of the labum majus and the mucous membrane of the vagina. They may be concealed by, or project from the labium majus. The labium minus are covered with delicate integument; they contain sebaceous, but no mucous glands, and therefore are cutaneous, rather than mucous folds. Venous spaces and smooth muscle fibers in their interior produce an appearance similar to that of erectile tissue.
